The Katha Upanishad (कठ उपनिषद् or Kaṭhopaniṣad : कठोपनिषद् ) is one of the principal Upanishads and is part of Yajurveda, which is a principal scripture of Hinduism. The Katha Upanishad consists of two chapters (Adhyayas), each divided into three sections (Vallis). The Upanishad propounds its philosophy by a legendary tale of a little boy, Nachiketa – the son of Sage Vajasravasa, who meets Yama (the deity of death). Their conversation evolves into a discussion of the nature of life, man, knowledge, paths of life, Atman (Self) and moksha (liberation).
